CHESTER, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball dropped a 78-52 decision against Widener University in a non-conference game on Tuesday night.
The Pride got off to a 12-7 start over the first four minutes of the game. The Knights responded well with a 9-1 run to close the period for a 16-13 lead after the first quarter. Neumann kept the lead through the first two minutes of the second, but Widener followed with seven straight points to take a four-point lead. They extended their edge by scoring 11 of the next 18 for a 34-26 lead at the break.
Neumann started the second half with two buckets over the first 1:23 but the Pride pulled away with a 15-0 run for a 52-31 lead halfway through the third quarter. The Knights scored five straight in response but again Widener finished the quarter with a 13-5 run. The final quarter was evenly matched but Neumann could not put a dent into their deficit.
Jenna Aponik led the Knights with 13 points and four steals.
Jess Aponik added 11 points and five rebounds.
Neumann (1-5) will be back in action on Tuesday, December 2
nd when they host Eastern University for a 7:00 PM start.
