ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer will look for their third straight Atlantic East Conference championship on Saturday afternoon when they host Marymount University in the title game.
The top-seed Knights have won five straight matches and sit with a record of 12-3-3, their highest win total since a 14-win campaign in 2011. In conference, it was a perfect 7-0 record that propelled them to the top of the table. Marymount comes into Aston as the No. 3 seed and a 4-2-1 conference record. Overall, they are 9-7-4. With their placements, both teams earned a bye to semifinals.
Neumann hosted No. 5 Gwynedd Mercy University on Wednesday night and defeated them by a final score of 3-0.
Zion Atta-Krah,
Jordan Illian, and
Victor John each scored while
AJ Henry made five saves, including a penalty stop, to preserve the win. Marymount went up to No. 2 Marywood and took them out with a 3-1 triumph.
In their regular season meeting on October 29th, Neumann travelled to Virginia and earned a tough 3-2 win. John and Atta-Krah gave the Knights a 2-0 lead but the Saints muscled back with two goals to equalize. In the 77
th minute,
Owen Rem scored on a fortunate deflection, giving them the victory.
The Knights are led by Illian's 13 goals and five assists. Atta-Krah is right behind with five goals while
Luke Mejia and
Markus Beugre have four each. In all, 17 Neumann players have at least one goal, showing their offensive depth. L. Mejia leads the team in assists with six and Illian has five.
AJ Henry has been locking it down all season in goal with an 11-1-3 record, a conference high seven shutouts, a 1.20 goals against average, and a .705 save percentage.
The game is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Neumann University's Turf Field as the Knights will look for their third-straight championship, and trip to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.
