Neumann came out hot in the chilly weather, scoring the first three goals of the game. Connor Hurley, and Sykes scored with the man-up, and McKee added an even strength marker for the 3-0 lead. With 1:18 left in the first, Boschi became the sixth member of the Neumann 100 goal club, giving the Knights a 4-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.

Matt Morris started the scoring with 2:53 left in the second but Drew went on a three goal run over the next 5:33 to pull back within one at 5-4. Boschi responded 90 seconds later but the Rangers got back within one quickly. McKee closed out the scoring in the second quarter as he tallied with 1:51 left to make it a 7-5 Neumann lead going into halftime.

The third quarter was controlled by Drew as they won the period 5-1. Boschi scored the only Knights goal of the quarter and the Rangers had a 10-8. Boschi scored twice in the first 2:47 of the fourth quarter but Drew came right back with two goals in eight seconds to regain the two-goal edge. With the game at 13-11 in favor of Drew, the Knights started their resurgence with 5:43 left to go. McKee and Boschi equalized and after the Rangers retook the lead, Sykes tied it up at 14.
