SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team faced a challenging doubleheader against Swarthmore College, dropping both games with scores of 3-1 and 4-0 on Thursday afternoon.
In game one,
Cioni Simmons,
Nicole Anderson and
Anaya Torres all had two hits.
Sydney Wright pitched a complete game in the circle, going 6.0 innings with five strikeouts and allowing no earned runs.
In the first inning, the Garnet took advantage of an early Knight miscue and scored two unearned runs. In the third, Swarthmore extended its lead to 3-0.
The seventh inning saw the Knights attempt a comeback. With two outs, Simmons walked and
Alexis Palombi singled. Wright singled to bring home Simmons. The Knights brought the go ahead run to the plate but could not get another run across the plate.
In game two, Palombi mustard the lone hit for the Knights.
Ang Sannicandro pitched a complete game in the circle.
Swarthmore took an early lead in the first inning with two runs. In the third inning, the Garnet extended their lead to 3-0 and added their final run in the sixth.
Neumann (3-19) opens Atlantic East action on Saturday when it hosts Centenary. The doubleheader begins at 12:00 PM. Prior to the game, the Knights will honor their senior class.
