ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University Softball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against Elizabethtown College on Tuesday afternoon, falling by scores of 3-1 and 5-1.
In game one, the first two innings went scoreless before the Blue Jays struck for three runs in the third. After a scoreless fourth,
Cioni Simmons led off by reaching on a fielding error.
Alexis Palombi following by ripping an RBI triple to the right-centerfield gap, scoring Simmons. The Knights would get the tying run to the plate in the sixth but could not comeback.
The Blue Jays struck early in the second game as they picked up two runs in the first inning on an RBI double and an RBI single. They added a third run in the fourth on another RBI single.
With one in the top of the sixth,
Sydney Wright singled to left field, but she was eliminated on a
Nicole Anderson fielder's choice.
Jenna Calchi came in to pinch hit and took advantage of the opportunity as she doubled in Anderson to get the Knights on the board. Elizabethtown iced the game in the bottom of the inning with a two-run single.
Neumann (6-28, 3-3 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Thursday afternoon for an Atlantic East doubleheader against Marymount University starting at 12:00 PM.
