WINCHESTER, Va. – On Sunday, the Neumann University Softball team defeated in Marywood University in the resumption of a suspended game, 12-6 but dropped an Atlantic East Conference tournament elimination game against Marymount University, 3-0.
Bri Reim led the Knights attack in the resumed game, hitting 3 for 4 with a double, two runs batted in, and three runs scored.
Tori Spinella was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBI, and three runs scored while
Rylie Norris was 3 for 4 with two RBI, and a run scored.
Sydney Wright hurled a complete game for her third win of the season.
After yesterday's second game was suspended due to lightning, it resumed today with the Knights leading 7-3. With one out and
Bri Reim on at second after a double, she advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when
Tori Spinella single up the middle.
In the sixth, with one out,
Cioni Simmons walked and moved to second on an
Alexis Palombi base hit.
Marina Costello followed with an RBI double to plate Simmons. Palombi would then score on a wild pitch and Costello scored on a Reim RBI single for an 11-3 lead. Marywood kept the game alive in the bottom of the inning as the cut the lead with a three-run home run.
Neumann looked to add on in the seventh as
Erin O'Shea walked, and both
Rylie Norris and
Emily Ammon hit bunt singles to load the bases. After O'Shea was nabbed at the plate when Simmons grounded, Palombi walked for the six-run lead. This result, along with Marymount dropping a 4-2 decision, set up a rematch for the right to go to the championship.
The Saints were first to get on the board in the first inning on a solo home run to left. In the fifth, Marymount added insurance runs with an RBI sacrifice bunt and an RBI infield hit. Neumann got the tying run to the plate in the sixth, and threatened again in the seventh, but couldn't come up with a run.
Olivia Ammon led the Knights with a 3 for 3 game along with a complete game in the circle. In seven solid innings, she allowed three earned runs on nine hits and a walk, striking out three.
Neumann ends their 2025 season with an 11-32 record.
