BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Neumann University women's basketball team started out strong and came home with a 53-36 win at Pratt Institute on Wednesday evening in Atlantic East Conference action.
Emily DuPont picked up a double-double to lead the Knights with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Bri Gautier and
Hannah Cappelletti each scored 10 points.
Jenna Aponik handed out eight assists and five steals.
After the teams opened the game by trading baskets, a three-pointer by Cappelletti put the Knights in the lead, and they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. Neumann scored the last seven points of the first quarter for a 20-8 lead after the first 10 minutes.
The Knights continued to add to their lead throughout the second quarter and took a 35-13 lead into halftime. The third quarter was much the same and Neumann held a 48-20 lead heading into the final quarter.
The Cannoneers made some noise in the fourth quarter, but the lead the Knights built throughout the first 30 minutes was too much to overcome and Neumann came home with the 53-36 win.
Neumann (5-13, 3-4 Atlantic East) starts the second half of conference action on Saturday afternoon when it travels to Immaculata. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 PM.
