ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer team took on the challenge of No.16 Messiah University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth game on Saturday night and settled for a 0-0 tie.
Although neither team picked up a goal, it doesn't mean there wasn't offensive action. The first half featured both teams' carrying possession for extended periods of time but the stats were as even as they could be. The shots were equal at five apiece, with Neumann getting three shots on goal to Messiah's two.
The Knights best opportunity of the game came in the dying minutes as with 100 seconds later,
Jordan Illian slipped a through ball into the box for
Tim Koke. Koke moved to his left for a better shooting angle, but the Falcons' goalie was equal to the chance. In the end Neumann held a 16-11 advantage in shots, and an 8-4 edge in shots on goal.
Chase Dougherty led the effort with four shots, one on goal.
Harry Beugre came off the bench and attempted three shots with two on goal.
Luke Mejia had two shots with one on goal.
Seiya Sato made four saves for his sixth shutout of the season.
Neumann (10-3-2, 5-0-1 MAC Commonwealth) stays tied atop the conference with two games remaining on the schedule, including their next match. A Tuesday night affair at Stevenson University with a 7:00 PM kick-off.
