ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer team upended Widener University on Wednesday night in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth match by a final score of 2-0.
Jordan Illian led the way with a goal and an assist on four shots, three on goal.
Chase Dougherty scored as well with the only shot he threw on goal.
Harry Beugre and
Markus Beugre also had shots on goal while
Seiya Sato did not need to make a save for his fourth shutout of the season.
Neumann dominated possession in the first half of play, outshooting Widener 12-3, but couldn't find the back of the goal. The Knights were able to finally break through in the 57
th minute.
Luke Mejia streaked up the left side of the field and crossed the ball into the box. The cross connected to Illian who spun and fired in his second goal of the season for a 1-0 lead. The Pride attempted to push back in a much tighter second half but couldn't find an equalizer. In the 85
th minute, Illian took a free kick from a sharp angle that connected off the head of Dougherty for his second of the year, sealing the match,
Neumann (7-3-1, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) will take to the road on Saturday afternoon as the visit Eastern University for a 4:00 PM start.
