HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team challenged Haverford College on Friday afternoon, dropping the season-opening non-conference game by a final score of 26-2
The Knights found themselves in their defensive zone for most of the first quarter. Although
Owen Avelar made nine saves, Neumann found themselves trailing 6-0 at the period's end. After giving up the second quarter's first goal, the Knights found themselves on the scoreboard for the first time this season.
Darius Thompson scooped a ground ball close to the crease and jumped it over the Fords' goalie to nab the goal. Haverford put up four goals in a row for an 11-1 lead but with 8:26 left in the half,
Kaden Adams moved in on a fast break and got the Knights within nine. A five-goal run for the Fords led to a 16-2 score after 30 minutes. Haverford scored four in the third quarter and six in the fourth to close the game.
Connor Hurley led the Knights with five shots on goal with
Luke Sykes behind him with two.
Nathan Raynor had six ground balls, Sykes had five, and
Cooper Waltz and
Cooper Dee had four each. Avelar made a career-high 25 saves in goal.
Neumann (0-1) will try to build on today's effort on Saturday, February 21
st for their home-opener against Elmira College starting at 1:00 PM.
