ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team suffered a 67-60 setback to Centenary University in the first round of the Atlantic East Conference postseason on Tuesday evening.
Three Knights scored 14 points in the game:
Emily DuPont,
Bri Gautier and
Jess Aponik.
Lindsay Holden tallied nine and
Elaina Guerzon added seven points and four assists.
The teams went basket-for-basket in the first quarter and were tied five times. A jumper by DuPont as the buzzer sounded put Neumann up 14-12 at the first break.
The Knights held an edge for most of the second quarter and built a seven-point advantage, 33-26, heading into halftime.
With Neumann leading 37-29, Centenary went on a 12-4 run to pull even at 41. The Cyclones continued to lead for the rest of the quarter and took a 49-43 lead into the fourth.
The Knights scored the first two baskets of the fourth quarter to pull back within two, 49-47. The teams remained close and the Cyclones held a two-point lead, 54-52, with 5:09 left in regulation. Centenary netted the next six points over the next three minutes to increase its lead to 60-52. That run proved to be the difference as the teams traded baskets over final two minutes of regulation for the 67-60 final.
Neumann finishes its season 9-17 overall.
