ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team picked up a 70-58 win over Marymount University on Wednesday evening in Atlantic East Conference action.
Emily DuPont led five Knights in double-digits with 21 points and handed out six assists.
Bri Gautier added 12 points, seven rebounds and blocked three shots.
Elaina Guerzon tallied 12 points off the bench.
Jess Aponik and
Lindsay Holden each added 10 points.
The Saints scored the first four points of the game and held an edge over most of the first 10 minutes. With 2:12 on the clock, a layup by Gautier gave the Knights a 15-14 lead. Marymount hit a three-pointer in the final minute to take back a 17-15 advantage.
Tessa Mullins answered back with a three-pointer to end the quarter and give Neumann an 18-17 edge.
DuPont opened the second quarter scoring with a three-pointer. With the Knights leading 25-21, Neumann went on a 10-3 run to take a 35-24 lead. The Saints finished the half with a jumper and the Knights took a 35-26 lead into halftime.
Just over two minutes into the third quarter, a three-pointer by DuPont gave Neumann a 40-28 lead. The Saints scored the next seven points to pull back within five, 40-35. The Knights answered with an 8-2 run to extend the lead back to double-digits. Neumann took a 52-40 lead into the final quarter.
The teams stayed even in the fourth and the Knights used the lead built throughout the first three quarters to come away with the 70-58 win.
Neumann (6-14, 4-5 Atlantic East) hosts Saint Elizabeth on Saturday in the first game of an Atlantic East doubleheader with the men. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
