Softball Stops Penn State Abington in Regular Season Finale

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Softball team defeated Penn State Abington on Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 4-1, closing the 2026 regular season.
 
Marina Costello led the way by going 3 for 3 with a run batted in. Faith Weaver was 1 for 2 with a walk and a run score and Cioni Simmons walked twice, stole a base, and scored two runs. Ang Sannicandro had a strong performance, earning the win. In her four innings, she allowed three hits without allowing a run. Courtney McKenna mopped up, allowing a run on two hits and three walks, earning the save.
 
Neumann got the offense started in the bottom of the first. Emily Ammon got on base on a dropped fly ball, reaching second. She then stole third. Simmons followed with a walk and stole second. Costello drove in Ammon on a single, putting Simmons at third. When Costello tried to steal second, Simmons scored for a 2-0 lead.
 
After a scoreless second, and with one out in the third, Simmons walked and stole second. She advanced to third when Costello singled and scored on a Nicole Anderson fielder's choice to lead by three.
 
Penn State Abington got on the board in the top of the sixth on an RBI single, breaking the shutout. In the bottom of the inning, Weaver led off with a walk and moved to second on a ground out. With two away, Tori Spinella smacked a double to left center, plating Weaver for an important insurance run.
 
Neumann (19-18, 7-5 Atlantic East) will now head to Arlington, Va. and the Atlantic East Conference tournament where they will open the postseason against Marywood University on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM.
