Men’s Soccer Falls in Tight Match with Mules

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer lost their first regular season match against Division III opposition in over a year, dropping a non-conference affair against Muhlenberg College on Saturday night, 2-1.

Muhlenberg got the scoring started in the 12th minute as a cross was collected on the penalty spot and fired in the goal for a 1-0 lead. Although the Mules carried a slight majority of possession, it was Neumann who would notch the next goal. In the 25th minute, a corner kick was awarded to the Knights. Tony Huertero-Perez swung it into the box and it skimmed the head of Luke Mejia for his third goal of the season, tying the game. The first half came to a close with the Mules leading in shots by a 5-4 margin, but the Knights had a 2-1 lead in corner kicks.

After the break, Neumann kept the game tied as Muhlenberg continued to press the attack. In the 62nd minute, a long Mules throw landed in the box and was headed in to regain the lead. In the last 12 minutes of the match, the Knights aimed for the equalizer but could not find the mark on goal.

Huertero-Perez led with two total shots. Seiya Sato made two saves in goal.

Neumann (3-1-1) will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday night when they travel to Washington and visit Catholic University. Kick-off against the Cardinals is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
