ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University turned in a strong performance against Division II squad Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday, defeating the Lightning by a final score of 3-0.
The Knights spread out the offensive attack with 10 different players attempting a shot towards goal.
JP Phillip led with two shots.
Mikey Brown,
Harry Beugre, and
Or Megnazi were the goal scorers while
Seiya Sato made eight saves for his second shutout win.
It took until the 15
th minute for the Knights to break onto the scoreboard as H. Beugre streaked up the right side, stopped to beat two defenders, and rolled a shot in for his first collegiate goal, and a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later,
Tim Koke slipped a lead pass to Brown who powered into the box and fired in the first goal of his collegiate career. In the 44
th minute,
Conor McCarthy dropped a corner inside the six-yard box. It was headed down by
Chase Money and pushed in by Megnazi for his first of the season.
As the game moved into the second half, the Lightning started to find their way offensively. During a stretch in the 80
th and 81
st minute, two consecutive corner kicks by Goldey-Beacom turned into three highlight reel saves by Sato, preserving the clean sheet.
Neumann (5-2-1) will be back in action to celebrate their senior class on Saturday afternoon when they host The College of New Jersey for a 3:00 PM start.
