John A. Phillips Scholar Athlete Award
Origin and Purpose
This award was funded in 1997 by a friend of Neumann College to honor a Philadelphian, John A. Phillips.
Recipient
The recipient of this award is a graduating student-athlete who has maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0; has earned a varsity letter in an NCAA sponsored sport at Neumann College; and who best exemplifies scholarship, service for others, and commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics. The honoree is announced at the annual Athletic Award Program, is recognized at the Academic Awards Convocation, and receives a medal engraved with the College seal, date, and name of the recipient. The medal is worn during commencement ceremonies.
John A. Phillips
Mr. Phillips is an African-American businessman, community leader, and family man. His value for education as a key to responsible living and success motivated many to pursue their academic degrees.
