Coach Roland Whiting enters his fourth season coaching the Neumann University men’s and women’s cross country program. Whiting came to Neumann as the programs were reinstated in 2008 after a seven year hiatus. With the growing interest for both cross country programs, Coach Whiting’s experiences have helped the Knights progressively grow competitively in the CSAC conference.
Neumann Universities cross country teams have taken great pride in serving the community as well as striving for academic and athletic excellence. Since the reinstatement of cross country the program has produced twenty seven all-academic conference athletes, runners of the week and all-conference performers in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Neumann’s cross country teams also volunteered participating in the healthy fit kids running series in West Chester, Pa. as well as volunteer service with Drexel Neumann Academy and supporting breast cancer awareness.
Before coming to Neumann, Coach Whiting was an assistant coach on Lincoln University’s 2007 NCAA Division III national championship indoor team. While coaching at Lincoln coach whiting help to produce several All-American athletes including NCAA women’s student Athlete of the Year finalist Ashley Parker. Coach Whiting was also instrumental in Lincoln’s transition from Division III to Division II.
Whiting was a Philadelphia public league sprint champion in the 200m at Dobbins AVTS. Whiting was a 12-time All-American and a member of five NCAA Division III national championship teams at Lincoln University. Whiting is also a member of the school and NCAA Championships national record setting 4 x 100-meter relay team.
Prior to returning to Lincoln, Whiting was an assistant track and field coach at Widener University, where he helped the Pride win three Middle Atlantic Conference championships producing several conference champions. He also coached four All-Americans and a host of national championship qualifiers. Whiting also coached at Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia where he produced nine all-Catholic athletes and five state qualifiers. Whiting also coached the Philadelphia Catholic League 4 x 100-meter relay championship squad.
Whiting is an avid runner and enthusiast of the sport of track and field as well as Speed Enhancement & Conditioning for all athletes. Whiting has had experience coaching and competing after college. Running for clubs such as shore ac and starting an Olympic development club ritc.
Whiting is a member of USTFCCCA and USATF associations.
Whiting is a native of Philadelphia with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health and Physical Education.
