Alicia MacGlaughlin begins her 12th season at the helm of the Neumann University Women’s Volleyball team in 2025.
MacGlaughlin led the Knights into the newly formed Atlantic East Conference in the 2018 season, guiding the team to an overall record of 17-17 and a conference record of 4-2. Neumann earned the three seed in the conference playoffs, defeating Immaculata in the opening round before falling to eventual champion Marymount in the semifinals. For their excellent season, the Knights were able to qualify for the ECAC tournament, where they knocked off Brooklyn College in the opening round before suffering defeat to Cabrini in the tournament quarterfinal round. Melanie Malseed was named the Atlantic East Defensive Player of the Year along with earning all-region honors and honorable mention All-America honors. Rachael Hoffman also earned first-team all-conference accolades, while Rachel Cray received second-team all-conference honors.
In the 2017 season, MacGlaughlin led Neumann to a record of 16-22 overall, including a 9-2 record in conference play. The Knights advanced all the way to the CSAC title game, falling to Cabrini University in the final by a score of 3-1. Four Knights were named to the CSAC All-Conference team, led by Melanie Malseed, who was named first-team all-conference and the CSAC Defensive Player of the Year. Rachael Hoffman also received first-team honors, while Shayne Sullivan was named to the second team and Bianca Harbold earned honorable-mention.
During the 2016 season, the Knights went 18-18 overall and made an ECAC Tournament appearance. Rachel Cray was named the CSAC Rookie of the Year. Five Knights were named to the CSAC All-Conference team including Rachael Hoffman, Rachel Cray, Melanie Malseed, Hayley Glah, and Shayne Sullivan.
In MacGlaughlin’s first season, the Knights went 23-14 overall and were the CSAC Runner-up. Neumann also received a bid to the ECAC Tournament. Kelsey D’Imperio was named the CSAC Player of the Year. Coach MacGlaughlin’s overall record is 57-52 in three seasons at Neumann.
Prior to becoming head coach, MacGlaughlin was an assistant coach for the Knights for three seasons. MacGlaughlin assisted in planning and conducting daily practices, aiding in recruitment and conducting in season conditioning workouts. Neumann has competed in the CSAC postseason all six seasons in which MacGlaughlin has been with the team.
MacGlaughlin was an assistant coach at Ridley High School for seven seasons before joining NUVB. She has also coached club volleyball for the past 11 seasons; seven seasons with Mystique Volleyball Club, two with Synergy Volleyball Club and the most recent season at East Coast Power Volleyball Club.
MacGlaughlin was a four-year starter and a two-year captain at Widener. She was the first player in school history to obtain 1,000 career kills. MacGlaughlin is still currently the school record holder for kills in a season. MacGlaughlin was selected as Rookie of the Year in her freshman year and most valuable player in her junior season. She was also named to the AVCA Mid-Atlantic Region, the MAC All-Academic Team and to numerous All-Tournament teams during her career.
MacGlaughlin is a 2004 graduate from Widener University graduating with a BS is Mathematics. She then completed her MS is Secondary Mathematics Education at Temple University in 2007. MacGlaughlin teaches Mathematics at Ridley High School and resides in Prospect Park.
