ST MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Neumann College volleyball team competed in the two-day Seahawk Invitational at St. Mary's College of Maryland Friday and Saturday.
Neumann lost four tough matches, including one to No. 22 Salisbury. Kristen Verone was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Knights started the invitational with a 3-1 loss to No. 22 Salisbury. Neumann won the first set, 25-18 and hit .475 as a team (20 kills, 1 error, 40 attempts). The second set stayed close but Salisbury pulled out the 27-25 win. Salisbury won the final two sets, both by 25-13 scores.
Julia Tarloski and Ashley Mathis each had 11 kills. Kristen Verone dished out 33 assists. Rachele DiMichele led the team with 14 digs. Rachael Sokolovich and Cathleen Hazewski each added 11 digs.
In the second match Friday night, Neumann lost in three sets to host St. Mary's. Game scores were 25-23, 25-14 and a close 32-30. Melissa Haines led the Knights with 15 digs. Kristen Verone added 10 digs and dished out 30 assists. Julia Tarloski notched 10 kills.
In the first match Saturday, Neumann fell to Marietta College, 3-1. Games scores were 25-15, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-22. Rachael Sokolovich led the team with 17 digs. Rachele DiMichele had 13 digs and Melissa Haines notched 11. Kristen Verone dished out 30 assists. Ashley Mathis notched 13 kills.
In the final match Saturday, the Knights fell 3-0 to Virginia Wesleyan. Game scores were 25-21, 25-21 and 25-18. Kristen Verone dished out 30 saves. Cathleen Hazewski notched 15 digs and Melissa Haines had 12.
Neumann will return to conference action on Tuesday when it hosts Cedar Crest. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
