Women's Basketball loses at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Neumann College women's basketball team fell to Susquehanna University 74-58 Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

 

Krista DiRomualdo (so. Eddystone, Pa. / Archbishop Prendergast) led the Knights with 14 points. Sami Borcky (fr. Aston, Pa. / Sun Valley) netted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Katie Young (so. Wilmington, De. / Padua Academy) scored 10.

 

Jennifer Butts led Susquehanna with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Ashley Watkins and Nikki Schneck each scored 11 points while Erika Barron added 10.

 

Six minutes into the first half, Susquehanna held a one point lead, 8-7. Over the next two minutes, the Crusaders went on an 11-2 run to take a 19-9 lead. The Knights netted the next seven points, four points by Young and a three-pointer by DiRomualdo, to cut the lead to three. Susquehanna would built its lead back up to as many as 13 with 3:20 left in the half and took a 35-28 lead at the half.

 

The Knights held the Crusaders scoreless for the first two and a half minutes of the second half and would get within two points, 36-34 on two free throws by Borcky.

 

Neumann held on for most of the half and stayed within striking distance, but could never hit the key shot to take the lead. With under five remaining in the second half, Susquehanna held a four point lead, 57-53. The Crusaders poured on the offense and put the game out of reach scored 17 of the final 23 points for the 74-58 win.

 

The Knights are now 2-3 on the season and will open Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) South play on Monday, December 1 at Immaculata. The women tip-off at 6 p.m. in the front part of the doubleheader, with the men beginning at 8 p.m.
