RUTLAND, Vt. – The Neumann College men's ice hockey team defeated host Castleton, 5-1, Sunday afternoon to win its second straight Rutland Herald Invitational.
The Knights scored four second period goals en route to their second win this weekend. Erik Stoyanovich netted the first goal of the game at the 8:28 mark of the first period on the power play off assists from Jeremy Gates and Matt Tendler.
Kyle Casey scored the first goal of the second period at the 12:36 mark from Danil Guryev and Gates. One minute and eight seconds later, Stewart Sjoberg put Neumann up 3-0 off a pass from Brock Van Slyke.
Kaleigh Schrock scored a power play goal with just under two minutes left in the second period off assists from Donovan Hall and Stoyanovich. Charlie Paterson capped the Knights scoring with a power play with just 23 seconds remaining in the second, off assists from Jesse Cole and Matt Ward.
Castleton scored its only goal in the third period on the power play.
Tendler made 26 saves in net for his second win of the weekend. Kyle Casey, Hall and Tendler were named to the All-Tournament team.
Neumann improves to 7-4-1 on the season. The Knights will host Lebanon Valley on Saturday as they wrap up the 2008 part of their season. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m.
