IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann College men's basketball team defeated Immaculata University, 75-70, Monday night in the first game of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
The Knights had balanced scoring with seven players scoring at least eight points. Patrick O'Connor (fr. Wilmington, Del. / St. Elizabeth) led the team with 11 points. Na'Sheed Linton netted 10 points. Eli Hitchens (sr. Abington, Pa. / Abington) and Mike Walukiewicz (fr. Elmer, N.J. / Cumberland Regional) each scored nine points while Sean Armstrong (jr. Boothwyn, Pa. / Chichester), Ty Robinson (jr. Colwyn, Pa. / Penn Wood) and Toure' Wright (jr. Philadelphia, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) added eight. Hitchens added 12 boards.
Kyle Finklea led the Mighty Macs with 20 points. Sean Fordham scored 14 points and Darnell Forde netted 10.
The first half remained tight with five ties and neither team taking more than a five point lead. Neumann (2-3, 1-0 CSAC) held a two point lead, 39-37, at halftime.
The second half featured much of the same. Neumann built an eight point lead twice, but Immaculata (1-3, 0-1 CSAC) kept pace. The Knights held a four point lead with less than a minute to go in regulation. Two free throws by Finklea cut Neumann's lead to two. Hitchen's hit one-of-two free throws to put the Knights back up by three. Two free throws by O'Connor with five seconds left sealed the win for the Knights.
Neumann will host Baptist Bible in the second half of a doubleheader on Thursday night. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
