IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann College women's basketball team opened Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) South action with a 67-62 win at Immaculata University Monday night.
Brittany Whetts led the Knights with 23 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. She was 9-for-11 from the line. Krista DiRomualdo netted 14 points while Nicole Feby added 11, each hit three from behind the arc.
Dominique Murray and Bridget Welz led the Mighty Macs with 16 points apiece. Kasey Hicks scored 13 points.
The beginning of the game featured six ties in the first nine minutes. With the scored knotted at 12, Neumann (3-3, 1-0 CSAC South) went on an 8-0 run to take the lead. Immaculata (3-3, 0-1 CSAC South) came within three points in the half, but the Knights held them off to take a 35-29 lead at halftime.
Neumann held a 13 points lead for part of the second half, but Immaculata would not give up. The Mighty Macs got within two or three points a few times and finally took a one point lead, 61-60, with 2:40 left in regulation.
A three-pointer by Feby put the Knights back in front, 63-62 with 1:53 left. With 25 seconds remaining, Murray hit a free throw to tie game at 64. Whetts hit a jumper and a free throw with five seconds left to put Neumann up by three. Welz missed a three-point shot with no time left on the clock and the Knights held on for the 67-64 win.
Neumann will host Baptist Bible in a CSAC crossover game on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. to be followed by the men at 8 p.m.
