ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann College men's basketball team fell to Baptist Bible College, 89-81, Thursday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Eli Hitchens led the Knights with 30 points. Mike Hitchen scored 15 points and Mike Walukiewicz netted 12.
Justin Cook led the Defenders with 25 points. Tom Waszaj netted 21 points while Nathan Greve scored 16. Travis Wash notched a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The first half remained close as Neumann took the largest lead, 17-10, at the mid-point. Baptist Bible, however, would take a three point lead, 37-34, at the break.
The second half started with four of the first five baskets being three-pointers. Baskets from behind the arc by Cook and Greve put the Defenders up 46-40. Greve would add a lay-up to take an eight point advantage. Waszaj netted the next eight points for BBC to increase its lead to 16.
Walukiewicz answered with two three-pointers of his own. The Knights kept chipping away at the lead, and a Sean Armstrong lay-up at 5:23 got Neumann within five, 70-65. However, that is as close as the Knights would get and the Defenders held on for the 89-81 win.
Neumann, 2-4 on the season and 1-1 in the CSAC, will travel to Vassar on Saturday for a non-conference game at 4 p.m. Baptist Bible improves to 2-2 and 1-0 in conference play.
