Volleyball splits matches in first day at Gettysburg Battlefield Classic

Gettysburg, Pa. - The Neumann College volleyball team split their matches today in the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic.  

In the first match the Knights took on John Jay.  Neumann easily swept John Jay in three games with scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-8.  Freshman Jerrae Robinson (King of Prussia, PA./ Upper Merion HS) had five service aces and 5 kills in the match to lead the Knights.

In the second match of the day Neumann took on host and perennial power Gettysburg College.  The Knights fell 3-1 to win but were very competitive with throughout the match.  The scores of the match were 25-23, 25-23, 17-25 and 25-23.  Head Coach Deana Jespersen stated, "We need to learn how to finish.  We had a chance to win this match tonight but did not because we did not finish our plays."

Senior Kristen Verone (Folsom, PA/ Cardinal O'Hara) handed out 23 assists against John Jay and 35 assists in the match against Gettysburg.  Supporting Verone's efforts were senior Julia Tarloski (Malvern, PA./Bishop Shanhan).  Tarloski contributed 10 kills and 7 block assists.  Sophomore Ashley Mathis (Norristown, PA./ Norristown) contributed 11 kills against Gettysburg and 10 kills against John Jay.

Then Knights record goes to 2-5 overall.  Neumann plays again tomorrow opening the second day of the Classic against Elizabethtown College.
