ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Neumann College men's ice hockey team fell to #6 Elmira College, 9-2, Saturday evening in ECAC West play.
Kyle Casey assisted on both of Neumann's goals. Mike Hedden and Erik Stoyanovich lighted the lamp for the Knights.
Elmira made a strong statement in the first period, scoring four goals. The Soaring Eagles opened the scoring at the 3:09 mark. Stoyanovich tied the game at one on a goal from Casey and Matt Ward. Elmira then scored three goals in a four minute span to take a 4-1 lead.
The Soaring Eagles netted three power play goals in the second period to extend their lead to 7-1. Hedden scored with two minutes left in the second period, off assists from Casey and Jeremy Gates, to make the score 7-2 at the second intermission.
Elmira added two goals in the third period to seal the win.
Ross MacKinnon made 14 saves in net for the Knights in the first period. Matt Tendler had 26 saves in the last two periods. Neumann is now 10-7-2 on the season, 4-3-2 in conference play.
The Knights are off until February 6 & 7 for their last two home games of the regular season. Neumann will host Utica in ECAC West action. February 6th is Breast Cancer Awareness night. The 7th will be senior night as we recognize all of the senior Knights. The puck is slated to drop at 7 p.m. both nights.
