CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Neumann College women's ice hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Cortland State with a 3-1 win Saturday afternoon in ECAC West action.
Carly Fitzsimmons had a goal and an assist and Jessica Schroeder had two assists for the Knights.
The Knights scored a goal in each period of the game. Nicole Alexopolous opened the scoring with a power play goal at the 11:46 mark of the first period. Jasper Thomson and Holly Williams assisted on the goal.
Fitzsimmons scored the eventual game-winner mid-way through the second period off assists from Schroeder and Kayla Dubowski.
Cortland netted a goal just 1:39 into the third period to cut Neumann's lead to one, 2-1. Nicki Blazenko added an insurance goal at the 12:19 mark, from Fitzsimmons and Schroeder, to seal the win for the Knights.
Mel Brunet made 26 saves in net for Neumann, which improves to 9-8 overall and 6-4 in ECAC West play. Cortland is now 3-11-3 overall and 2-6-2 in the conference.
The Knights will host top-seeded Elmira next weekend in ECAC West play. Friday night's game will begin at 7 p.m. and will be Breast Cancer Awareness Night “Pink the Rink” night. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to “pink out” the rink and show your support.
