Men's Basketball Falls to Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann College men's basketball team fell to Centenary College, 69-66, Thursday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Action.

 

Eli Hitchens led three Knights in double figures with 15 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Michael Hitchen scored 11 points and Na'Sheed Linton added 10 points and seven assists.

 

Rob Urie scored a game high 21 points for the Cyclones. Ryan Kearney netted 14 points. Andrew Baker and Will Atkinson each added 13 points. Baker also pulled down nine rebounds.

 

Centenary scored the first seven points of the contest. Neumann answered with the next eight points to take an 8-7 lead. The teams stayed close until two minutes left in the first half when the Cyclones took an eight point advantage. Linton netted a lay-up with four second left and Centenary took a 36-31 lead at the break.

 

The Cyclones netted the first six points of the second half to increase their lead to 11. Neumann kept chipping away at the lead and tied the game at 49-all on a basket by Anthony Hodges midway through the half.  The Knights then went on an 11-3 run to take their biggest lead of the night, 60-52, with five minutes left. However, Centenary turned on the defense and held Neumann to just six more points the rest of the way. The Cyclones tied the game at 61 with 2:28 left then took the lead for good. Neumann got to within one point, 67-66, on a Eli Hitchens three-pointer, but two foul shots by Kearney put the game away.

 

Neumann Head Coach Mike Gallagher, along with the coaching staff from Centenary College, wore sneakers tonight to bring awareness to Coaches vs. Cancer.

 

The Knights are in the middle of a three-game road trip. Neumann travels to Baptist Bible on Saturday for a CSAC game. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
