Women's Ice Hockey Defeats UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – The Neumann College women's ice hockey defeated host UMass Boston, 4-3, in the consolation game of the Codfish Bowl Tuesday afternoon.

 

The Knights netted all four of its goals in the second period, three of which were power play tallies. Jessica Schroeder had three assists.

 

UMass Boston opened the scoring on a penalty shot in the first period as Maria Nasta scored her first of two goals of the afternoon after Brittany Metcalfe was called for hooking. Nasta then assisted on a goal by Lauren Duran as the Beacons took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

 

Kayla Dubowski opened Neumann's scoring at the 1:35 mark of the second period with a power play goal from Fitzsimmons and Schroeder. Metcalfe tied the game with a power play tally from Schroeder and Nicki Blazenko at 11:45. Vicki Scott gave the Knights the lead, again on the power play, at the 17:14 mark, as Schroeder notched her third assist. Tabatha Schury netted the game winning goal with 48 seconds left in the second period from an assist by Diane Peters.

 

Nasta scored her second goal of the game at the 6:49 mark to get UMass Boston with one, but the Knights held on for the 4-3 win.

 

Laura Keeley made 19 saves in net for Neumann. The Knights outshot the Beacons 51-22.

 

The Knights return home this weekend to host Sacred Heart for two games. The puck is set to drop on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
