Cole Nets Hat Trick as Knights Tame Bears

POTSDAM, N.Y. – A five goal first period help lift the Neumann College men's ice hockey team to a 9-4 win at SUNY-Potsdam Thursday evening in a non-conference match-up.

 

Jesse Cole netted a hat trick for the Knights. Neumann had 13 different players record at least a point in the contest. Kyle Casey scored a goal and notched two assists. Mike Hedden, Nick Lapierre, Matt Ward, and Erik Stoyanovich all tallied a goal and an assist. Matt Valois, Ryan Heickert and Brock Van Slyke had two assists.

 

Connor Treacy scored two goals for the Bears.

 

Marlon Gardner opened the scoring for Neumann just 3:58 into the game. He netted a power play goal from Charles Paterson and Casey. Hedden and Lapierre scored goals 1:02 apart to give the Knights a 3-0 lead. Cole scored his first goal at the 15:09 mark and Casey tallied at the 17:28 mark to put Neumann up 5-0 at the first intermission.

 

Ward opened the second period scoring 2:38 in. Cole notched his hat trick with two goals, one being on the power play, to give the Knights an 8-0 heading into the third period.

 

Stoyanovich rounded out Neumann's goals with a power play goal 35 seconds into the period. Potsdam rattled off four unanswered power play goals, but the Knights prevailed with the 9-4 win.

 

Matt Tendler made 33 saves in net as Neumann improves to 9-6-1 this season. The Knights will host Western New England on Saturday at Ice Works. The puck is set for drop at 7 p.m.
