ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team picked up its first ECAC West win and remained a perfect 3-0 at home with a 5-4 win over Utica College Friday evening.
Aaron Keaney had two goals and an assist for the Knights, now 3-2-2 on the season and 1-2-2 in the conference. Cory Park added three assists. Ross MacKinnon made 16 saves in net.
Neumann jumped out to an early lead when Brent Tamane scored 3:29 into the game. Keaney scored his first goal of the game, a power play tally, at the 9:08 mark to put Neumann up 2-0. The Pioneers answered just over a minute later to cut the lead to one, but Jordan Zalba netted a goal at 11:42 and the Knights went into the first intermission up 3-1.
Utica scored just 12 seconds into the second period to again make it a one goal game. However, Keaney scored his second goal of the game 1:47 into the second to put the Knights back up by two.
The Pioneers added a power play goal in the second and the Knights held a 4-3 lead at the second break.
Greg Virgo scored his first goal of the season, and the eventual game-winner, 6:42 into the third period. Utica would score a power play goal with just over seven minutes left of the clock. The Pioneers would pull their goalie for the final 1:30, but the Knights held on for the 5-4 win.
The Knights will host #4 Manhattanville tomorrow night in an ECAC West contest. The puck is slated to drop at 7 p.m.
