CHESTER, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell to Widener University, 85-74, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
Marquise Boggs led the Knights with 19 points. Na'Sheed Linton notched 14 points and 11 assists. Sean Armstrong added 13 points.
For the Pride, Chris McDevitt scored 21 points. Jack Brennan notched 20 points and 14 rebounds while Aaquil Atkins added 11.
Neumann started the game off strong and jumped out to a 25-10 lead after 10 minutes. The Pride then turned up its defense and held the Knights to just 11 points over the second 10 minutes of the half. Widener chipped away at the Neumann advantage and with 22 seconds left in the half, tied the game at 34. Linton finished the half with a lay-up and the Knights went into the locker room with a two point lead, 36-34.
The Knights built their lead to eight, 50-42, with 14:22 remaining in regulation. Widener then went on an 11-2 to take its first lead, 53-52, a lead it would not relinquish. With the Pride up by one, 57-56, and 8:52 on the clock, Widener built its lead up to seven, 63-56. The Pride would keep the pressure on and Neumann could not overcome the deficit.
Neumann (1-1) will host Elizabethtown in a non-conference contest on Monday, beginning at 8 p.m.
