Men's Ice Hockey Falls at Utica

UTICA, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell to Utica College, 7-3, Friday evening in an ECAC West contest.
 

Matt Ward notched a goal and an assist for the Knights. Ross MacKinnon made 12 saves in net in 36 minutes. Matt Tendler made 11 saves in net in relief. 

The game was decided by special teams as all by on goal was scored on a man advantage. Utica notched six power play goals while Neumann scored two on the power play and one shorthanded. 

Utica notched its first power play goal 3:33 into the game. Ward netted his power play goal at 6:49 to tie the game. The Pioneers would retake the lead with 56 seconds left in the first period and took the 2-1 lead into the intermission. 

William Lacasse scored his first goal of the season 34 seconds into the second period to knot the game at 2-all. The goal was shorthanded. Utica would then score four power play goals to take a 6-2 advantage at the second intermission. 

Marlon Gardner also scored for the Knights, his fourth of the season and on the power play. Utica rounded out the scoring, an even strength goal, midway through the third. 

Neumann, now 2-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play, will travel to Elmira and Hobart next weekend for two ECAC West games. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday night.
