Men's Ice Hockey Nets Four in Third, Wins 7-5

, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team defeated Cortland St., 7-5, Saturday evening in non-conference action.

 

Andrew Love scored two goals for the Knights. Aaron Keaney dished out three assists. Matt Ward and Marlon Gardner both notched a goal and an assist. Jeff Rodell added two assists.

 

Matt Tendler started the game and made nine saves. Ross MacKinnon played the final 20 minutes and made five staves to pick up the win. The Knights out shout the Red Dragons 41-19. Neumann went 4-for-6 on the power play.

 

Mat Valios opened the scoring for Neumann 8:52 into the first period. Cortland tied the game at one before Brent Tamane netted an unassisted power play goal with 4:45 left in the first period. The Red Dragons tied the game again just over a minute later and the teams went into the first intermission knotted at two.

 

Cory Park put the Knights up again with a goal at the 2:29 mark of the second period. Sean Bianchini and Keaney assisted on the goal. Cortland netted two goals in the period and took a 4-3 lead into the second intermission.

 

The Knights scored four goals in the third period, three on the power play, for the come-from-behind win. Love tied the game at four 1:49 into the period. Ward put the Knights ahead at the 5:33 mark. Gardner scored the eventual game-winner at the 15:05 mark to put Neumann up by a 6-4 score.

 

The Red Dragons made it a one-goal game with 1:43 left in regulation. Love scored his second goal of the game, an empty netter, with 32 seconds remaining to seal the win.

 

Neumann improves to 6-4-2 overall on the season. These two teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon. The puck will drop at 2:30 p.m.
