ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team opened Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play with an 85-67 win over Rosemont College Thursday night.
Neumann had four players in double-digits. Marquise Boggs led the Knights with 20 points. Sean Armstrong added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Armstrong was 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Na'Sheed Linton netted 13 points (6-of-6) and eight assists and Patrick O'Connor scored 10.
The Knights opened the game scoring 19 of the 27 points for a 19-8 lead 6:55 in. Rosemont held Neumann to just two points over the next six minutes and took a 24-21 lead. The Ravens built a seven point lead. Linton hit a three-pointer as the buzzer sounded, but Rosemont held the three-point advantage, 37-34.
Rosemont increased its lead to 10 points, 49-39, with 16:31 left in the second half. The Knights then scored six straight points and 11-of-14 to cut the lead to one. Neumann tied the game at 58 with 8:45 on the clock.
The Knights kept the pressure on and went on a 23-5 run to build an 18 point lead with 2:17 left. That was enough for Neumann to hold on for the 85-67 win.
The Knights shot 75 percent in the second half while holding the Ravens to 37 percent. For the game, the Knights shot 58.8 percent.
Neumann improves to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Knights will continue CSAC play on Saturday when they host Centenary College. Tip-off is 2 p.m. at the Mirenda Center.
