Ward Scores Four Goals In Knights Win

PALMYRA, Pa. – The Neumann College men's ice hockey team finished its 2008-09 regular season with an 11-2 win at Lebanon Valley College Saturday afternoon in ECAC West action.

 

Matt Ward scored four goals in the game and added an assist for his second straight five point game. Mike Hedden netted a goal and five assists for six points on the afternoon. Kyle Casey had two goals and two assists. Marlon Gardner notched a four point game with a goal and three assists. Jesse Cole scored a goal and added two assists. Ryan Heickert had a goal and an assists and Sean Bianchini added two assists.

 

Lebanon Valley scored the game's first goal on the power play. The Knights responded with four goals of their own in the first. Ward scored Neumann's first two goals, both on the power play and both assisted by Hedden and Casey. Casey and Heickert also scored in the first.

 

The Knights notched four goals in the second period as well. Ward scored his third goal before Hedden netted a power play goal to put the Knights up 6-1. The Dutchmen scored a power play goal with 3:15 left in the second for a 6-2 score. Cole and Ward scored 14 seconds apart and the Knights took an 8-2 lead into the second intermission.

 

Gardner, Matt Valois and Casey all scored in the third period for the 11-2 final.

 

Matt Tendler started the game for the Knights and made 17 saves in two periods. Jordan Erickson made eight saves in the third period.

 

Neumann, who ends its regular season with a 14-9-2 record overall and 8-5-2 in the ECAC West, will be the fourth seed in the ECAC West playoffs. The Knights will host the 4-5 game on Wednesday, February 25 against Utica College. Game time will be 7 p.m. at Ice Works.
