ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann College men's ice hockey team defeated Utica College, 9-2, Friday night in ECAC West action.
Michael Hedden netted two goals and two assists for a four point night to lead the Knights. Jesse Cole and Brock Van Slyke each had two goals. Kyle Casey added three assists while four other players had two assists each.
Neumann netted four goals in the first period. Charles Paterson opened the scoring at the 6:04 mark of the first. Hedden notched his first goal two minutes later. Utica got on the board at the 12:01 mark to cut the Knights lead to 2-1. Van Slyke and Cole each scored in the first to give Neumann a 4-1 lead at the intermission.
Hedden scored 19 seconds into the second period, on the power play, for his second goal. Van Slyke and Cole also scored in the second before the Pioneers scored their second goal. The Knights took a 7-2 lead into the second intermission.
Matt Ward stuck quickly, just 18 seconds into the third for a power goal. Ryan Heickert finished off the scoring 44 seconds into the period and the Knights came away with the 9-2 win.
The two teams will meet me again tomorrow. The face-off is set for 7 p.m. The seniors will be honored prior to the faceoff.
