ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Neumann College men's ice hockey team defeated Elmira College, 2-1, Wednesday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Ryan Heickert and Matt Ward scored for the Knights. Ross MacKinnon made 32 saves in net.

Heickert opened the scoring 5:32 into the first period. Neumann took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Ward scored off a rebound 7:06 into the second period to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.

Elmira scored with 6:13 left in the third period to cut the Knights lead to 2-1, but Neumann held on for the win.

Neumann advances to the second round and will face Plattsburgh on Saturday.
