READING, Pa. – The Neumann College women's basketball team lost to Alvernia University, 88-66, Wednesday night in the first round of the ECAC Tournament in the South Division.
Brittany Whetts led the Knights with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Caitlin Agnew netted 16 points while Katie Young added eight. Sami Borcky pulled down eight rebounds and Krista DiRomualdo grabbed seven.
Kelli McIntyre scored 28 points for the Crusaders. Alexandra netted 20 points and Joanna Graber added 17.
The Knights started out strong and scored the first 11 points of the game. The Crusaders scored their first points on free throws 14:24 into the game. Neumann would take its biggest lead of the game, 23-6, with 10:56 left in the first.
With the Knights up by 11 points, 32-21, with 5:35 on the clock, the Crusaders went on a 13-2 run to tie the game at 34-all. The teams traded baskets and Alvernia took a two points advantage at halftime, 40-38.
Alvernia opened the second half with a 14-7 run over the first five minutes to take a nine points lead. Neumann would come within six points, 58-52, with 13:27 on the clock, but Alvernia started to pull away and did not let the Knights back in the game.
Neumann ends its season with an 18-10 overall record.
