Volleyball Completes Play at Buttermaker Tournament

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University volleyball team competed at the Buttermaker Tournament at Muhlenberg College this weekend. Even though the Knights did not win a match, they did win their first sets of the season.

 

In the first match Friday night, the Knights fell to the Spartans of York College in three sets (25-19, 26-24, 25-19). Victoria Limmina had a good service and passing game. Jerrae Robinson had five kills while Emilee Gruse notched four. Natalie George had one block solo and one block assists. Cecily Scavicchio dished out 12 assists and three services aces. Melissa Haines notched 12 digs.

 

In the second match Friday, Neumann faced host Muhlenberg. The Mules won in five sets, 25-16, 23-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-7.

 

Ashley Mathis led the Knights with 14 kills. Robinson and Gruse each notched 10 kills. Scavicchio dished out 35 assists and 26 digs. Haines added 30 digs.

 

Muhlenberg took the first set. The next three sets came down to the last point. In the fifth set, the Mules jumped out to an 8-0 lead and held off the Knights for the 3-2 win.

 

In the first match on Saturday, Neumann lost to FCU-Florham 3-1, 25-14, 20-25, 25-15, 25-20.

 

Robinson led the team with 12 kills. Lauren Sheehan notched eight. Caitlin Cantwell dished out 19 assists. Haines and #Chrystina Amelotti# both had six digs. George netted two block solos and three block assists.

 

In the final match of the tournament, the Knights fell to Moravian College in three sets, 25-21, 25-7, 25-19.

 

Robinson and Gruse each had five kills. Cantwell dished out 12 assists. Haines had nine digs while Robinson and Amelotti notched five.

 

Neumann opens conference play on Tuesday when it hosts Keystone College. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m.
