ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball remains undefeated in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) with a 69-55 win over Gwynedd-Mercy College, giving the Griffins their first conference loss on the season.
For the Knights, Brittany Whetts scored 26 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Katie Young contributed 13 points and 11 boards, while Nicole Feby netted 10.
Jackie Dooley was the only player in double figures for the Griffins, she scored 13 points.
Neumann and Gwynedd-Mercy were well matched throughout the first half. Neither team gained a significant advantage until the Griffins opened up a 12 point lead with eight and a half minutes remaining. Neumann quickly cut the lead back to 6 points and trailed 36-30 at halftime.
Neumann opened the second half by scoring the first eight points to take a 38-36 lead. The teams traded baskets and knotted the score at 42. That was the last time the Griffins came within nine points.
A Feby three-pointer capped an 18-3 run, giving Neumann a 58-43 lead, with six and a half minutes remaining in regulation. During the run Neumann held Gwynedd-Mercy scoreless for three and a half minutes.
Neumann secured the win with 1:23 remaining, by knocking down 6-8 from the foul line. The Knights held the Griffins to just 19 points in the second half.
Neumann took home the 69-55 victory, improving to 12-4, 8-0 in the CSAC.
The Knights will travel to CSAC opponent Immaculata University on Monday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. The men's basketball team will follow the women's game.
