Women's Basketball Defeats Stockton

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Richard Stockton College, 61-52, Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of the Days Inn Tournament hosted by Gettysburg College.

Nicole Feby led the Knights with 20 points. Brittany Whetts netted 12 points and nine rebounds. Katie Young also grabbed nine boards. Sami Borcky had three blocks in the game. 

Julia Fagan scored 14 points for Stockton. Aspen Price-Perry netted 13. LaTonya Oliver added 10 points and 11 boards.

The first half remained close with the biggest lead being five points. Feby hit a three-pointer with four seconds left in the first half to give the Knights a 28-25 advantage at the half. 

The three point halftime advantage is a lead that Neumann would not relinquish during the second half. With the score 36-33 with 13:36 on the clock, the Knights netted nine straight points to increase their lead to 12 points. The Ospreys would cut the lead to three with 7:25 remaining, but a basketball by Whetts put Neumann back up by five and Stockton could not get any closer.

Whetts was named to the to the All-Tournament Team with her 31 points and 18 rebounds over the weekend. 

With the win, Neumann improved to 6-4 on the season and avenges the loss against Stockton in the season opener. The Knights will be back on the court January 11 when they host Keystone in the front end of a conference doubleheader. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
