Men's Basketball Falls Short to VFCC

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell to Valley Forge Christian College, 74-68, Tuesday evening in the Neumann Holiday Classic.

Ty Robinson led Neumann with 14 points. Na'Sheed Linton netted 13 while Sean Armstrong added 12. Marquise Boggs grabbed nine boards.

Mike Stum and Justin Kinsey each netted 21 points for the Patriots.

The Knights and the Patriots traded baskets the entire game. The Knights opened up the scoring and back to back jumpers by Ty Robinson to extend Neumann's led to seven points. Valley Forge Christian then went on a 14-2 run with eleven minutes remaining in the first half to take a 30-19 advantage. Neumann closed the lead as the half was coming to a close.  Reggie Coleman drained a three-pointer with two minutes left in the half and as the buzzer sounded to bring the Knights within two-points. Neumann trailed Valley Forge Christian 34-36 at half time.

Neumann and Valley Forge Christian continued to play a very close game, down until the last seconds of the game. The lead changed eight different times during the second half with seven tied scores. Neither team could gain a significant lead in the second twenty minutes of play, with the largest lead for either team being six points.

The Knights held a 67-66 lead with 2:53 left in regulation. The Patriots took the lead one minute later on a lay-up. VFCC then netted another lay-up with one minute left for a three-point advantage.

The Knights had several opportunities to regain the lead, but missed key free throw attempts with under forty-three seconds remaining. Neumann could not close the lead and fell to Valley Forge Christian 74-68.

Neumann (4-5) is back in action tomorrow evening in the second half of the Neumann Holiday Classic. Rowan will face VFCC at 6 p.m. followed by Neumann and Penn State Brandywine at 8 p.m.
