ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team picked up its first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) win by defeating Cedar Crest College, 3-2, Saturday afternoon.
Megan George had two goals for the Knights. Kelsey Mazur notched the eventual game-winning goal. Chelsa O'Donnell and Erica Crabtree added assists. Maggie Carpenter made five saves in net while Terri Yurick had a defensive save.
Tamera Gruzdis had both goals for Cedar Crest.
Neither team could break the goalie in the first half and went into the break knotted at 0-0.
George scored her first goal in the 42nd minute to open the scoring. She then scored again five minutes later for a 2-0 lead. Mazur capitalized off of a penalty corner to put Neumann up 3-0 in the 49th minute.
Cedar Crest ended the shutout 10 minutes later on a penalty corner as Gruzdis netted her first goal. She then scored again, also on a penalty corner, in the 65th minute to bring the Falcons to within a goal.
The Falcons could not get another goal to even the score and the Knights came away with the 3-2 win.
Neumann (2-11, 1-2 CSAC) will host Immaculata on Tuesday afternoon in conference action. The game is slated to start at 4 p.m.
