Knights Fall, 3-2, in Season Opener

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team opened its 2010-11 season with a 3-2 loss at Geneseo Friday evening in non-conference action.

Steve Gervais scored the first goal of the game, off a pass from his twin brother David Gervais, 3:36 into the first period. Geneseo tied the game up at one two minutes later and the teams went into the first intermission knotted at one.

The Geneseo Knights scored two goals in the second period, one 3:07 into the period and the other at the 11:36 mark on the power play, to take a 3-1 lead.

Jordan Zalba scored with 4:52 left in the third period on the man advantage to get Neumann to within one goal. Michael Rey assisted on the goals. However, the Knights could not get the equalizer and fell 3-2.

Ross MacKinnon got the start in net and made 34 saves.

Neumann (0-1) and Geneseo (1-0) will meet again tomorrow afternoon beginning at 4 p.m.
