UTICA, N.Y. – Ryan Dreger scored his first collegiate goal to lift the Neumann University men's ice hockey team to a 5-4 win over Utica College Friday night in ECAC West action.
Steve Gervais netted two goals and an assist for the Knights. Jordan Zalba notched a goal and an assist while David Gervais also scored for Neumann. Michael Rey dished out two assists. Ross MacKinnon made 21 saves in net.
Utica opened the scoring midway through the first period with a power play goal. S. Gervais netted his first goal of the game, off assists from Rey and William Lacasse, with 3:44 left in the first period. The teams went into the first intermission knotted at one.
S. Gervais put the Knights up 2-1 with a power play goal midway through the second period. Scott Farrell and Zalba assisted on the lone goal of the second period.
D. Gervais scored just 1:02 into the third period to put Neumann up by a 3-1 score. Dreger and Jeremy Gates assisted on the power play goal. Utica answered a minute and half later. Zalba gave Neumann its two-goal lead back at the 4:13 mark. Rey and S. Gervais assisted.
The Pioneers then scored a short-handed and a power play goal in just over three minutes to tie the game at 4-all. Dreger scored his goal with 2:08 left in regulation off an assist from Brent Tamane to give the Knights a 5-4 lead and eventual win.
Neumann (3-2-1, 2-1 ECAC West) will face No. 5 Manhattanville tomorrow evening in conference action beginning at 7 p.m.
