Men's Ice Hockey Completes Weekend Sweep of #8 Elmira

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team completed a weekend sweep of #8 Elmira College with a 4-3 win Saturday evening.

Matt Ward had a hat trick and an assist in the game. Marlon Gardner dished out two assists. Jordan Zalba scored the fourth goal for the Knights. Jonathan La Rose made 29 saves in net. 

Ward scored all three of his goals in the first period. He opened the scoring 4:20 into the game on the power play. Elmira responded just over two minutes later to tie the game. Ward then scored two more goals, with at the 14:24 mark and one with three seconds left in the first period to give the Knights the 3-1 advantage at the intermission.

Zalba put the Knights up 4-1 3:43 into the second. The Soaring Eagles cut the lead back to two just over a minute later. Neumann held a 4-2 lead in the second intermission.  

Elmira got to within one goal with 3:03 left in regulation. The Soaring Eagles pulled their goalie for the final 1:26, but could not score and Neumann held on for the 4-3 win.

Neumann will wrap up its regular season next with a home game against Lebanon Valley. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m.
