ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell to Elmira College, 4-2, in the semifinals of the ECAC West playoffs Saturday evening.
David Gervais and Mat Valois scored for the Knights. Ross MacKinnon made 40 saves in net.
The Knights struck first as Gervais scored and unassisted goal at the 9:21 mark of the first period. The Soaring Eagles knotted the game at one-all with 3:09 left in the first and the teams went into the first intermission.
Neumann went up 2-1 as Valois scored a power play goal from Brent Tamane and William Lacasse 3:01 into the second period. Again, Elmira scored and tied the game at two at the 6:56 mark. The teams again went into the intermission tied at two.
Elmira scored the go-ahead goal with just 3:40 left the third period. The Soaring Eagles sealed the win with an empty net goal.
Neumann finishes it season 15-9-3. Elmira, the No. 1 seed, will host Manhattanville, the No. 2 seed, in the ECAC West Championship Contest next Saturday.
