ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Baptist Bible, 84-73, Thursday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Marquise Boggs led five Knights in double-figures with 18 points, including six from downtown. Na'Sheed Linton scored 15 points. Mike Walukiewicz netted 12 points. Ty Robinson and John Lewis each netted 10. Sean Armstrong pulled down 11 boards.
The Knights netted 10 three-pointers while the Defenders sank 14.
Baptist Bible's Tommy Waszaj led all players with 24 points. Nathan Greve netted 19 and Seth Bernard added 17.
The beginning of the half was balanced as the two teams went back and forth. At the 8:48 mark, Neumann down by three points, 20-17, the Knights ended the half on a 25-3 run to take a 40-23 lead into halftime. During the run, the Knights held the Defenders scoreless for 7 minutes and 39 seconds.
Reggie Coleman netted two three-pointers during the run. Walukiewicz added five and Robinson scored four. Four other players added a basket during the run.
Even with a double-digit deficit, the Defenders would not go away quietly. BBC kept draining three's to stay within reach. The Defenders got within eight points, 76-68, with 1:34 left on the clock. However, seven free throws by Boggs put away the game for the Knights.
Neumann (10-10, 8-5 CSAC) will host Cabrini on Saturday as part of a CSAC doubleheader with the women. The ladies tip-off at 1 p.m. followed by the men at approximately 3 p.m.
