Knights Remain Undefeated in CSAC

GWYNEDD-VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team stayed perfect in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action with a 56-52 win over Gwynedd-Mercy College Monday evening.

 

Katie Young notched a double-double with 15 rebounds and 14 points for the Knights. Bethany Humenik netted 12 points.

 

Kristy McGrath led all players with 19 points for the Griffins. Brittany Neill added 10.

 

In the first 10:30 of the game, the teams traded the lead four times. With the Knights and the Griffins tied at 13 with 9:33 on the clock, Neumann went on a 9-0 run to jump to a 22-13 advantage. The Knights held a 30-22 lead at halftime.

 

Neumann built its lead up to 14, 38-24, three minutes into the second half. The Knights shooting then went cold for the next five minutes of play and the Griffins chipped their way back into the game and got to within two points, 38-36. Kieran Young broke the scoreless drought with two free throws.

 

The Knights would build its lead back up to seven, 48-41, with 4:29 left in regulation. With 2:30 on the clock, the Griffins were within one, 50-49. Baskets by Sami Borcky and Ki. Young gave Neumann a five point advantage with just over a minute left. Ka. Young then hit one-of-two from the line with 12 seconds and three seconds left for the four point advantage and win.

 

Neumann improves to 9-6 overall and 6-0 in the CSAC. Gwynedd-Mercy is 7-5 and 3-1 in conference play. The Knights are now off for a week until they travel to the Cavaliers of Cabrini College next Monday. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
